Israel is presently in a state of crisis and needs immediate support from each and every one of us. As you may know, the Camp David Summit is taking place this week - amidst anguished withdrawal of support from Natan Sharansky, Israel Ba'Aliya leader and Interior Minister, the NRP, and Shas. Foreign Minister David Levy has made the dramatic announcement that he will not take part in the summit.

Natan Sharansky's letter of resignation to the Prime Minister included the following:

"I joined the government that you headed with mixed feelings of hope and fear... I hoped that the world-view that you laid out on the eve of the government's formation, as well as your military understanding, would lead the State of Israel to peace with borders and conditions that would guarantee its physical and national existence. I feared {though} that...for unforeseen reasons the hopes would not be met. I am sorry that, at the end of a year of your leading the government, it is clear that my fears have prevailed and my hopes for the most part have proven false... Mr. Prime Minister, contrary to you promises, you do not act as the Prime Minister of everyone. Your leadership sharpens that which divides the people, and deepens that which tears us apart. Under your leadership, agreements were signed with the Palestinians that... conflict with the understandings upon which your coalition was based that a large portion of your coalition partners reject, and that do not enjoy the broad support of the public.

"You{Mr. Barak} will come to the summit conference in the USA, at a decisive moment in the life of the Jewish People and its state weakened, without red lines, without the support of most of the nation. Under such conditions, the agreement that you can reach is dangerous from a diplomatic standpoint and has the potential to divide the nation - a division which, G-d forbid, there will be no return.

"All of this could have been different if you had agreed to establish a national unity government based on a consensus of red lines, with which you would have come to the summit conference as a strong leader supported by his government and people. Peace can only be made when most of the government, the Knesset, and the public support it. This was the case with the peace agreement with Egypt that was signed in Camp David over twenty years ago, this was the case with the peace agreement with Jordan, and this is the only way to make a durable peace with the Palestinians. Any other path is an illusion that may bring us to the brink of destruction.

"I turned to you a number of times in writing and verbally, warning you about the path you are following, and I called on you to establish a national unity government. I am sorry that you did not heed my warnings and did not answer my call and continued on your path this is too dangerous a path, and I cannot be a partner to it, and I therefore resign from the government."

...AND.. President Clinton has many things up his sleeve to continue relentless pressure upon Israel to agree to terms that are more than damaging. They could, G-d forbid, bring us into a state of serious calamity. Could we live with ourselves if we turn our backs on Israel??? Please respond by doing the following:

FIRST SAMPLE LETTER

We believe the very existence of the State of Israel is threatened and the lives of its 5,000,000 citizens are in great peril. Concessions made by the State of Israel have been met by a Palestinian Authority which has kept no promises and continues to display rhetoric and actions that clearly indicate that the goal of utter annihilation of Israel remains.

We ask you to look to your consciences and remember the similar pressures placed on the democratic and sovereign state of Czechoslovakia in 1938 which tragically brought about World War II.

Let's remember that the sovereign state of Israel wants peace. The Palestinian Authority relentlessly shows it wants conquest - piece by piece. Those who are in a position to act must never let this happen.

SECOND SAMPLE LETTER

Please use your good office to protect rather than pressure the sovereign State of Israel from those who ma e no bones about their real aim which is the destruction of this small democratic state with values so similar to those upon which our nation is based.

THIRD SAMPLE LETTER

We sadly see the pressures imposed by the U.S. upon the State of Israel reducing this tiny bastion of democracy to easy prey for the Palestinian Authority who makes no bones about its intent to feast bit by bit bringing about utter annihilation, heaven forbid. Please use your good office to make certain this will not happen.

FOURTH SAMPLE LETTER

We respectfully ask you to protect rather than pressure tiny Israel whose ancient codes are clearly reflected in the beginnings of our own country and whose ancient values form the basis for our own. May we help the world grow better, finer, truer. And truth requires us to recognize when two nations come together to talk peace and one has the declaration of destruction sticking out of its pocket, then it is falsehood rather than truth that will lead the world down the path of pain and destruction. We must act on what our eyes see and our hearts and intellect know rather than on political considerations which will only come back to haunt us in our times. History will bear accurate witness showing clearly and tragically that this brokered peace in reality was an easily recognizable fatal mistake. Like the little boy in the fairy tale "The Emperor and His New Clothes" it is so clear. May we not all pay dearly for the utter distortion of the calculated plan of destruction that we see and respond to as the olive branch of peace.

Signed............
